Star-shl is a diagnostic centre that performs laboratory testing for GPs, midwives and other healthcare providers.
Through a collaboration with its client Altrecht, a clear need emerged: to digitalise the request process for laboratory tests. This required a solution that was not only secure and reliable, but could also be implemented quickly while leaving room for further development.
The challenge was considerable. It involved creating a new product from scratch, within a tight timeframe and aligned with the care processes of both Star-shl and Altrecht. The objective was clear: a digital solution that allows lab requests to run smoothly and reliably, without compromising on quality.
Lab24 by CODE24 proved to be the best fit for these requirements. The system’s functionality and configurability, combined with CODE24’s experience in healthcare processes, made Lab24 a logical choice for Star-shl and its client Altrecht.
The collaboration was also experienced as very positive from CODE24’s perspective. Suzanne van der Lee, now Product Manager for Lab24 and at the time involved as a consultant during the implementation, reflects:
One of Lab24’s strengths is the flexibility of the system. With Lab24, users work directly from within their own EHR and can digitally manage lab orders and results from any laboratory. Organisations can also configure protocols for order sets, reducing repetitive actions per patient.
“There is an enormous amount that is possible,” Suzanne explains. “The other side of the coin is that everything that can be configured also needs to be configured. However, with this project we’ve shown just how quickly this can be done – orders, notifications, protocols, SMS alerts… we configured everything in a very short time. When the right decisions are made promptly on the client side, we can move extremely quickly.”
The first experiences with Lab24 at Star-shl have been positive. Altrecht experiences Lab24 as a solution that fits well with the foundation of their processes. Within a short period of time, a working and well-fitting solution was realised, thanks in part to clear decision-making, strict scope management and close collaboration between Star-shl, the client and the supplier.
One important lesson Star-shl would like to share with other organisations embarking on a similar project is the importance of collaboration:
“Work in a multidisciplinary team where the user, supplier and client maintain short communication lines. This allows you to respond quickly to changes and ensure that the solution truly fits the user’s processes.”
Star-shl and CODE24 will continue working together on Lab24 in the future. Further development is already well underway.“We are currently continuing to develop the product together with CODE24 so that it aligns even better with the user’s processes. The collaboration has been very positive,” says Romy.
