“I’m still learning more about the software every day, especially on the technical side. It can do so much, which makes it both enjoyable and very interesting to work with.”
Hey Bernadette! What is your job at CODE24 like?
“I’m a software consultant, which means I focus on implementing our solutions. For example, with Lab24 I work on digitising processes such as lab orders and lab results. I also support our support department.”
WHAT DOES AN AVERAGE WORK DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
“I always start the day with a stand-up with the team. After that, I often have (online) meetings with customers or colleagues. For instance, I discuss with customers what a particular product or form should look like. Sometimes I also demonstrate a new feature.
Between meetings I can really focus on configuring different components. These requests are submitted by customers through a ticket or are asked directly when I’m working on-site with them. This could involve tasks such as creating a completely new form—like an intake form or a laboratory form—or modifying an existing one. I also work on configuring the mappings for HL7 message traffic.”
What skills are most important for your role?
“Analytical thinking and a solution-oriented mindset are very important. You need to understand what the customer wants and how we can help them achieve it. For example, if you need to unravel a bug, it’s important to analyse exactly where the problem lies. And when we implement a new product or tool, we want to provide a solution that genuinely supports the users.
Customer focus, communication and planning are also essential. Planning in particular is important: during long-term projects, support tickets still come in and additional meetings are scheduled. Sometimes you expect your day to look a certain way, but things turn out differently. Being able to prioritise is therefore crucial.”
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
“I really enjoy delivering a new feature or tool and hearing that end users are actually able to work more efficiently and effectively because of it. I also like that I can alternate between social contact with customers and colleagues and tasks where I can work independently and focus.”
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE?
“I’ve been working here for almost a year now and I’m still learning more about the software and its technical capabilities every day. So for now, I mainly want to continue developing as a consultant, especially on the technical side. In terms of ambitions, I don’t really look too far ahead yet—there’s still plenty of challenge and opportunity at the moment.”

“I think CODE24 creates a very pleasant working environment. My colleagues are highly engaged and everyone is helpful. I can always ask questions, no matter who it is.
